How to tell the difference between professional and non-professional translations?

Online translations are one of the most sought-after services in Italy. However, determining their level of quality can be tricky for non-professionals.
Here are a few elements to help you understand what makes us the ideal supplier for your professional translations.

  • We have a network of more than 2000 native speaking translators.
    A translation agency guarantees a constant service and greater certainty with respect to a freelancer, because they can easily replace an unavailable translator with another of the same level, ensuring all jobs are completed by the deadline indicated in the quote.
  • We only work with professional translators.
    For our collaborators, translations are the main source of income and represent a full-time job for which they have an official qualification. They are therefore committed to giving their best in every project.
    To the contrary, those who translate on an occasional basis offer an approximative service insofar as lacking the necessary skills to deliver a quality translation in as short a time as possible. This is precisely why during the selection stage, we only accept candidates with relevant qualifications and suitable references.
  • TRW translators live all over the world and constantly speak in the language into which they translate.
    Most agencies enlist foreign native speaking translators who have lived outside their country of origin for many years. We, on the other hand, prefer to collaborate with native speakers who live and work from their own country. This positively affects the quality of their translations, because they experience the evolutions in their language in real time, first-hand. By speaking the language every day, their vocabulary is automatically updated, even with local jargon. Moreover, they easily relate to the recipients of the translation, because they share their same culture.
  • Every translator we select is specialised in a specific field.
    Our collaborators are perfectly fluent in their native tongue, and thanks to their academic or professional background, are able to master it in a specific field: technical, legal, financial and so on. When we receive a text to be translated, we assign it to the professional most able to perfectly fulfil the task: only a specialised translator will be able to provide professional translations with excellent results and in a short time.
  • We periodically test all our translators.
    Before a new translator can work with us, they need to complete 3 translation tests, necessary to determine what their real skills are. Throughout the collaboration, we continue to check that their service maintains a high standard of quality. These steps are part of the supplier qualification process.
  • We continually provide training and assistance to our collaborators.
    We are well aware of the importance of ongoing training, in any field. That’s why we make sure our collaborators have access to all the necessary digital tools to support the translation, up-to-date glossaries, and constant support in case of doubts or questions.
    A TRW translator is part of a fully committed team with a single objective: 100% professional translations.

Revision

Revision has a twofold meaning. It is in fact an additional service offered by TRW to perfect a translation made by others, but also a tool to check the quality of our work. It can therefore be applied to different types of texts, including:

  • a translation already in the client’s possession
    Revising a semi-completed text is a very delicate operation and may require more time than a translation done from scratch. In this case, we ask that you send us the source file as well, that is, the starting text for the translation. Having the original text will allow the revisers to compare the source with the translated text, thus guaranteeing a perfect service in as little time as possible.
  • the work of one of our translators
    The internal revision of translations is something we regularly do for all translations produced by our agency. Several more experienced translators re-read the translations a second time in the capacity of revisers. Their contribution therefore certifies the correctness of the translation and ensures the highest quality of the final product. To the contrary, translations by freelancers are not double-checked, because the same person who translates the text, also re-reads it. Those who turn to TRW can be sure that our revisers will make an objective contribution to every single translation produced.

The key to professional translations: revisers

In our work flow, the final check by a reviser is a must. Here’s who these professional figures are:

  • professionals to whom translators can turn for all doubts, in every field of translation;
  • persons responsible for correcting the translation tests and following the training of aspiring TRW translators;
  • overseers of client translation memories in their own native language.

That’s right, because for each of our clients, we create or implement a translation memory for every language. The translation memory (TM) is a set of terms used by operators to translate texts.
Revisers are responsible for making sure that identical concepts are not translated in different ways and that each term is translated in the most appropriate way. This ensures the coherence and quality of the translation, regardless of who is translating a given text. This is indispensable in cases where multiple translators need to work on translations for the same client.

Other professional translation services

  • Translations with source languages other than Italian
    Although we mainly work with Italian clients, we set no limits. We are perfectly able to work with language combinations starting from languages other than Italian: translations from French to Italian, translations from German to English, or from English to Chinese and so on.
  • Rare languages
    The growth of young and developing economies in the international market has brought with it the need to translate from Italian into lesser-known languages, in particular Oriental ones. In cases such as these, where it is difficult to find a qualified operator able to meet our quality standards, we prefer to start from English, which is more common and well-known than Italian.

Apart from this specific scenario, we always ask to start from the text in the published language, that is, the language in which it was originally written.
A translation of a translation is never advisable, since the meaning of the final product can significantly deviate from the original meaning of the text.
